Some R&B for ya!

Jamal Ali has gotten back into the groove of performing live around Spokane.  Fusing contemporary R&B with classic soul, hip-hop, and even taking inspiration from classic rock and modern country, he certainly sees every musical genre as a potential influence.  His voice is clear and melodic, drawing influence from the likes of Stevie Wonder.  Lyrically, he can display a humble, self-deprecating sense of humor, particularly in his song "Beautifully Ugly."  A versatile live performer, Jamal can give a subdued approach featuring just vocals and keys, or completely let loose with a backing band.  To witness the latter, see him backed up by Mon Chéri as he opens for Allen Stone at The A Club this Monday.  Two years after his first appearance on the 103.1 KCDA Local Lounge, Jamal Ali returned with his lovingly beat-up keyboard to perform some live tunes, as well as spin tracks from "Raining Ugly: The Best of Jamal Ali" and a new recording.
