Classing up the Local Lounge with some contemporary jazz!

Rachel and her future husband Brendan met in college, where they formed a lasting musical collaboration.  They both grew up surrounded by various musical influences, from classic rock to '90s alt-rock, in addition to jazz.  During their live performances they specialize in traditional and contemporary jazz, incorporating classic tunes along with their original compositions.  Stylistically, they focus on the post-bop sound...intricate, carefully constructed melodies and rich, impressionistic harmonizing in the vein of Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane, and Miles Davis.  Rachel sings and plays tenor sax while Brendan switches between drums and trumpet.  Rounding out the rhythm section is EWU student Riley Gray on the keys and local multi-genre multi-instrumentalist Don Caverly on the string bass.  Their CD "The Unspoken" is winning accolades from jazz fans throughout the northwest.  This past Sunday the Rachel Bade-McMurphy Quartet cam by the Local Lounge to perform several of their slightly more pop-leaning songs live in our studio, in addition to spinning a few cuts from their CD.
