Kari Marguerite and the Seventy-Six is a one-of-a-kind band here in Spokane. With old-school soul, jazz, and funk presented in a pop-rock context, they certainly know how to catch you ear and get your body moving. Kari Marguerite, formerly of Cure All Remedy, writes some intelligently sassy lyrics and delivers them with a soulful swagger. The "Seventy-Six" refers not to her backing band, but to her 76-key portable keyboard, a nod to the vintage electric pianos of a funkier era. That is not to say that her backing musicians aren't worthy of mention...quite the opposite, in fact. Kari employs only the finest, most experienced players in town. They are a rotating cast of characters, including Evan Denlinger on guitar (formerly of Denwyler, featured on the Local Lounge back in the day), Chris Grant on percussion, Michael Lenke on trumpet, and Eddie Ramirez on bass, among many others. Eddie is also the producer of Kari's new self-titled CD, a labor of love and top-notch local production. To support the release of her CD at The A Club on February 19th, Kari Marguerite and the Seventy-Six will drop by the 103.1 KCDA Local Lounge this Sunday to perform a few live songs (featuring Evan and Chris) and let you preview several CD tracks.
