...a unique name for a one-of-a-kind musician.   Stephanie Hatzinikolis is primarily self-taught, as she preferred to compose her own songs rather than play covers or take lessons in her formative years.  Still, she clearly developed a classical approach to her craft.  Her intricate piano style provides the perfect compliment to her rich, clear voice.  She makes full use of the dynamic range, shifting from whisper quiet to bold and strong.  Rarely will you hear a simple verse/chorus tune, as Stephanie makes deft use of bridges and interludes, segues and variations.  Her lyrics are deeply personal reflections on life.  You might expect such a musician to stick to solo performances, but Stephanie frequently collaborates with many local musicians.  Her latest project is called Team Growl, where she lends keyboard and vocal accompaniment to Matthew Winters' lead singing and guitar playing: see them live in Spokane on Saturday the 24th and Thursday the 29th.  This Sunday, however, Stephanie will bring her keyboard to the Local Lounge for several live songs as well as spin a couple of her recordings, all solo-style.
