![]() Earlier this year, I presented my first ever "Best Of" show, comprised of performances from shows that aired in 2007 and 2008. Now it's time to pay tribute to the great artists that came by the studio this year. The performances will air in no particular order: they're all great, and to rank them would be comparing apples to oranges due their different styles. I chose them to celebrate the excellence of the artists and the variety of sounds heard on the show. You will hear folk, indie, pop rock, classic rock, pop jazz, funk, and straight-up rock 'n' roll. The songs will be performed by solo singer-songwriters, duos, and full groups of 3-5 members, some with multiple vocals and guitars, plus keyboard, bass, and a drum kit. These were all performed this year live in the Local Lounge in addition to the spoken interview segments. I will keep the performer names and song titles a secret until the show airs. However, these songs will not be the ones used for the artist videos that I've posted, so chances are you haven't hear them in a while. Still, all of the shows represented this Sunday can be listened to in their entirety on this page. This availability is due to the best improvement so far: starting early this year, I gained the facility to post each new show as free, high-quality streaming audio the day after it airs! Other improvements this year include better quality videos and photos on-line. Don't miss The Best of the 103.1 KCDA Local Lounge 2009 this Sunday, December 27th, at 10 pm PST. Tune your radio to 103.1 FM in the Spokane/Post Falls/Coeur d'Alene area or listen live to the on-line audio stream at this website. Just click on the "Listen Live" link in the upper-left corner of this page. This time you will hear me talk a bit more talk than usual. Typically, I leave that to the artists! Still, most of what you'll hear will be music, with each artist's commentary on his or her song. I have some more improvements lined up for 2010. The major one: we now have a full-sized auditorium in which I can bring fully-equipped bands: full drum kits, amp stacks, even horn sections! Stay tuned regarding the first Local Lounge show to make use of this. Thanks so much to Mark's Guitar Shop and their ongoing sponsorship that started in early 2008. They provide several instruments, amplifiers, and other equipment for us to use. Sometimes a guest's guitar will be on the fritz and their performance will be saved thanks to the instruments kept in reach by Mark's Guitar Shop! I've been producing the Local Lounge since Summer/Autumn of 2007. I strive to bring in great local musicians and produce a high-quality multimedia experience each Sunday with audio, video, text, and photos on-line in addition to the FM broadcast. Before me Stella Mar produced the show, and before her, Sam Hill started the Local Lounge some 5-7 years ago. Long Live the Local Lounge!! Happy New Year, ~Matt Loi producer
