Album Haiku Review | Lana Del Rey “Born To Die”
Rating|2.5/5
Song’s I Can’t Take Off Repeat| “Video Games,” “Born to Die,” & “National Anthem.”
little bit gangster
little bit pretty in pink
little confusing
I feel like I have a “history” with Lana Del Rey because of how appalled I was with her performance on SNL. That kind of put a negative taste in my mouth before I even took a listen to the album. I keep going back and forth on my feelings with “Born to Die.” Some days I sit in my car with the song “Born to Die” on repeat and think it is brilliant. Other days I think the album is crap. I have been listening to “Born To Die” now for a few weeks. I seriously can’t make up my mind.
Lana’s vocals are so whispery and they hypnotize you, it’s almost like her vocals float out of the speakers. I love that about her. However, when she sings an upbeat song it’s hard to listen to whispery when it’s being rapped. See where I am coming from?
Another aspect of the album that I enjoy is that it doesn’t sound like anything else I am listening to right now on the radio or at home. It’s unique to point where I come back to the start of this review. Is it worth the space in my iPhone? At least three songs are.
